The role of EStà
EStà is participating as a technical and scientific partner in the second edition of the Master’s in Local Food Policy, organised by CIHEAM Bari and the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo (UNISG). The programme, which runs from January to December 2026, is one of Italy’s leading educational initiatives dedicated to the governance of local food systems and the design of sustainable food policies.
This collaboration forms part of a multidisciplinary partnership involving academic institutions, national networks and organisations committed to promoting fairer and more sustainable food systems.
The hybrid format and international character
The Master’s programme is also characterised by a strong international and interdisciplinary dimension. The participation of students, lecturers and experts from different countries fosters the exchange of approaches, experiences and models of food governance developed in diverse local contexts. The programme adopts a hybrid format that combines online activities with face-to-face sessions, enabling the integration of theoretical lectures, project-based workshops, international case studies and networking opportunities among professionals, researchers and administrators committed to transforming food systems. This structure makes it possible to capitalise on both the flexibility of distance learning and the direct interaction and collaborative learning that characterise residential activities.
The topics covered
In this context, EStà contributes to the design and delivery of training activities focused on food policy, participatory processes and tools for territorial analysis and planning applied to food systems. In particular, EStà’s contribution explores the role of stakeholder participation and engagement in shaping local food policies, providing students with methodologies and tools for analysing territorial contexts, mapping stakeholders, defining collaborative strategies and designing pathways for inclusive governance.
The programme is delivered through both lectures and within the Master’s Open Innovation Lab, a practical space where students work on case studies and real-world projects related to territorial food planning and the development of local food policies.
The partners
In addition to CIHEAM Bari and the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo, the programme involves the University of Turin (Department of Culture, Politics and Society), the Italian Network for Local Food Policies, the National Council of Food Districts, Slow Food Italia and the World Farmers’ Markets Coalition/Campagna Amica, creating a forum for dialogue between research, institutions and local practices.
