Earth Day MED
- An institutional and scientific conference and multi-stakeholder workshops (Wednesday 9 April);
- A programme of activities taking place throughout the city during the week of 7-13 April, aimed at citizens and schools.
The institutional and scientific conference is hosted by the University of Palermo (Palazzo Steri) and aims to bring together international actors to discuss the climate-energy-food-water nexus in the Mediterranean, a hotspot of the climate crisis (as declared by the IPCC) and of the richness and vulnerability of the biodiversity present there.

Earth Day MED
Promoted by Fondazione Studio Rizoma, in collaboration with ECCO think tank, Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Paris, France | Italia, Università degli studi di Palermo
The Mediterranean Climate Festival – Earth Day Med will be held in various locations in the city of Palermo, offering a space for transnational dialogue to build a common voice for the environment. Thanks to its central position in the Mediterranean basin, Sicily preserves the memory of ancient cultures that have passed through the region over the centuries, and is now a landing point for those fleeing conflict and poverty, often exacerbated by climate change.
The Festival will alternate panels of experts, town hall meetings and public debates with moments of play, learning and art, addressing a diverse audience (families, activists, students, civil society and institutions). The fundamental issues of climate change will be addressed, from risk management to ecological transition and environmental and social sustainability. These aspects will be broken down into the essential elements of our daily lives: energy, water and food.
With the patronage of the Union for the Mediterranean, the Department of Territory and Environment, and the Municipality of Palermo.
